Yesterday, the dogs, husband and I jumped in the car for a trip to a friend’s house – she has three fenced in acres, a pond and four dogs and we all love visiting her for a doggy play date.
My friend has ducks and peacocks and normally when we visit the peacocks are in their little pen and the ducks stay in the water – sometimes the dogs bark at them but usually all is peaceful. For some reason on this particular visit, Snoopy decided he had enough of standing at shore barking at the ducks, and decided to go in after them.
Now no one was worried about the ducks – they can easily outswim a dog, but as it became clear Snoopy was dead set on catching the ducks, we all started to worry a bit about Snoopy. The pond water was COLD (like 45 degrees) and he is an older guy doing a very strenuous activity. Chris tried in vain to convince him to come up to shore for about 15 minutes. Finally he decided to give up and came up to shore himself.
The poor guy was shivering like crazy, so we wrapped him up in a towel and did our best to dry him off.
He was pretty worn out but still interested in the ducks so for his own well-being we put him on a long line and made him chill on the porch with us so he could dry off and rest. He is still completely worn out from his little duck chasing adventure – but he definitely had fun!
